Olympics was a damp squib for Retailers but Paralympics changed perceptions

While Hunter and Chase couldn’t get enough of Team GB’s Olympic successes, for London retailers the Olympics, combined with the poor weather, did not have the positive impact that was hoped for. Dixons increased sales of HD TVs but Brand and clothing retailers did not experience a flood of high-spending Games visitors. Most Hunter and Chase clients are attributing this to visitors spending their money on the “experience”, rather than shopping, and the relative strength of the pound versus the dollar and euro. Working in the Middle East Post Recession

The huge tax free salaries, generous benefits and allowances and the relaxed working environment for many perhaps most companies, (of course this cannot be said for every company or every expat), created a euphoric atmosphere, perhaps even an artificial environment. New CEO of Yahoo! – A giant step forward for Women Executives

So Yahoo! appoints a new CEO, a female and she is 6 months pregnant. Many would not batter an eyelid, who cares if it is man or women, and rightly so. Although this demonstrates how society has progressed in a short span of time, remember only 50 or 60 years ago women were only seen as secretaries and anything more would have raised plenty of eyebrows. Roselyn Donahue, headhunter at leading Executive Search firm Hunter & Chase says, ‘there is still a long way to go as women are not proportionally represented at senior management level in the numbers they should be, however much progress has been made, and the appointment of Marissa Mayer, as CEO of Yahoo! is another step in the right direction.’
