Hunter & Chase Place Executive in Oil Company – Based in Libya

The challenge

A privately held regional Oil Services company delivering Field Services such as Wireline, Slickline, Cased Hole Logging and Completion services required a GM to grow its business services in post revolution Libya. Before the revolution, the role was under management by the Regional Oil Services Director. This meant he was unable to push forward the business regional expansion plan in time whilst managing the day to day operation and business relationships in Libya. It was therefore critical to have someone in place who can take up the role quickly, build new relationships was technically excellent and with leadership and PnL as well as line management responsibilities. Each day the post was unfilled meant competitors were winning the business and taking significant market share.

What we did

Due to the background of board and our extensive network in this sector. Hunter & Chase focused it’s search within well known large Oil Services business such as Halliburton, Weatherford, Baker Hughes and Schlumberger. We were able to target candidates who were very familiar with the MENA region or had worked in Libya and understood the culture and spoke Arabic. Our target list generated a varied but competent pool of 25 candidates . Following a comprehensive assessment and interview process, the list was narrowed to 5 candidates that were submitted for the shortlist after further detailed assessment and evaluation. We also had to attract these candidates and sell the benefits of the client’s business set-up and strategic importance of the role with full accountability and responsibility at the GM level.

Outcome

The 5 candidates that were submitted were then invited to the UAE from the different regions for a full interview. Two of these candidates stood out and were progressed to meet the Managing Director of the parent group Engineering and Development company. One of these candidates was offered the position. Hunter and Chase assisted during negotiations and helped with the relocation process and resignation. The GM has now started work and has began to establish key relationships and manage the delivery of client projects being delivered.
